With its extensive coast-line and numerous reservoirs and lakes, Sri Lanka is an excellent place to cast your line and participate in the exciting sport of inland and deep sea fishing. Inland fishing can be arranged at any time of year due to the constant smoothness of the water on inland waterways and reservoirs located around Sri Lanka . However, as with all sea-based activities, Sri Lanka ‘s deep sea fishing is dependent on the season, with western and southern coasts accessible from November to April and the east coast being more suitable from May to September. You can choose to fish from the beach itself or go further out to sea in an in-built or out-board fibre-glass motor boat and try troll fishing. All safety jackets, rods and bait, and other equipment will be supplied. Fishing tours can be arranged on a day basis or as part of a longer itinerary.

The jewellery manufacturing industry at present employs approximately 15,000 persons of which around 10,000 are registered individual craftsmen while the rest is employed in factories and workshops producing jewellery mainly for the export market. There may be around 1,500 unregistered employees working under registered craftsmen. About 60% of the jewellery workshops and craftsmen are located mainly in the rural areas of Southern and Central provinces and in pockets in the North Western, Eastern and Northern provinces. 30% and 10% of jewllery workshop are located in suburban and urban areas respectively.
The jewellery manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka mainly consists of three sectors such as manufacturing for exports, local market and tourists’ trade. Sri Lanka’s main markets for jewellery are Japan, Germany, USA, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong. During recent times, silver jewellery studded with semi- particularly moonstones and low quality precious stones have gained popularity. A large number of traditional jewellery have adapted themselves to producing modern designs particularly for the German market. Jewellery design and manufacturing have undergone a lot of changes during the past few decades. The use of computer software to create modern designs and casting jewellery for bulk production has come to play a major role in the jewellery industry.

Sri Lanka is a country of rich heritage, one of which is its indigenous system of Medicine, which has been racticed by the people since time immemorial. The Ayurveda system of medicine from North India, the Siddha system of medicine from South India and the Unani system of medicine of Arabs enriched with contributions from the traditional system of medicine called Desheeya Chikitsa is popularly known as the Indigenous system of medicine in Sri Lanka.

The word “Ayurveda” originated from one of the pristine language called Sanskrit. Ayurveda into two segments as “Ayur” and “Veda”, these two words stands for “Life” and “Science”. [Science of Life]
Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest approaches to medicine. This is an ancient healing system is based on 5000 years of tradition. Also this healing system has been use for more than 5000 years in India & Sri Lanka. Still today in Sri Lanka approximately 60% of the populations are treated with healing system. Ayurveda an approach to healing that has been proven and tested over thousands of years and that only uses medicines that are found in nature.
The major source of Ayurvedic knowledge is the “Vedas” the sacred texts of knowledge of Hindu God called Load Brahma, (MAHA BRAHMA). The God Maha Brahma introduced this healing system for both achievement of “Enlightment” and also to prevent from disorders. “Ayurveda” published two Ayurvedic sub categories such as “Three Dosha” and “Panchakarmaya”.

Thanks to the abundance of timber in Sri Lanka, traditional architecture was made of wood, and this led to a strong heritage of woodcarving skills.
Handicraft of woodcarving in Sri Lanka has a long history. The tradition of woodcarving in Sri Lanka is manifested at Lankatilaka Temple and Embekke Devale at Kandy. At these temples, miniature replicas of the low-relief wood carving done by the traditional woodcarvers can be bought at fair prices. The three dimensional carvings of ebony elephants, Buddha are popular in Sri Lanka. Wood-carved decorative panels are used widely in Sri Lanka in the trade of interior decoration too.

Batik is of Indonesian roots, yet in Sri Lanka, the craft has developed into a unique style to produce shirts, sarongs, dresses, shorts, wall hangings, cushions covers, bed hangers and a multitude of décor items. Batik handicraft products are of distinctive designs in vibrant colors.
The time consuming technique in producing high quality Batik involves multiple waxing and dyeing of cloth on which the design is done. In the end all wax is scraped out and then boiled. The cloth is made to absorb colors of the dyes further by the use of Hydrochloric Acid. Drying in the sun brightens up the colors. The number of colors in batik is the precise indication of the number of times it was immersed in the dye bath and application and removal of wax. That is to say a multicolored design of Batik involves a great deal of work than a Batik design in just a couple of colors.
Today, since chemical dyes too have come into the equation in addition to the traditional dyes, the spectrum of colors in Batik seems to have become endless. Originally a cottage industry, today manufacture of Batik products is done at workshop level in the South-western coastal areas of as well as the Central area of Sri Lanka.

The Handloom Textile Industry in Sri Lanka has a centuries old history. This tradition of handloom weaving has been brought down from generation to generation in the country. The Sri Lankan weavers succeeded in creating a distinct identity of their own by transforming the traditional woven patterns and color schemes into the beautiful textile designs.
Sri Lanka’s handloom industry is a highly labor intensive, export oriented rural based industry. It demonstrates excellent fabric handling properties partly due to its weaving method. The fabrics presently manufactured in Sri Lanka are mostly of cotton with relatively small quantities of rayon’s, and polyester cotton. Sri Lanka also produces a range of products by using silk yarn. These textile products have been able to compete successfully with machine made fabrics.
The industry provides livelihood for a large number of households in the country particularly in the South, Central and Eastern Provinces. Sri Lankan handloom manufacturers are capable of producing attractive handloom textile products to the international market with a range of designs and colors to satisfy the specific requirements of the international market. Internationally there is a very good demand for handlooms while Sri Lankans too wear handloom clothing

Sri Lanka is famous for its spices and spices gardens. These spice gardens offers tourists memorable visits to various spice plantations in Sri Lanka. In order to promote and uplift spice growing and spice gardens of Sri Lanka a spice council was established with all key industry private and public sector stakeholders. During early historical times Sri Lanka Known as Taprobane, was world renowned for its quality spices. During ancient times the Greeks, Romans and the Arabic maintained their links with Sri Lanka through the spice trade.
There are some 4,000 different species of plants at Peradeniya Gardens. The 10,000 or so trees, which are the stars, are mature, lofty giants, many of them tropical timber trees. Highlights of the collection include the Giant Bamboo of Burma, capable of growing to 40 meters’ height (130 feet), with a 25-centimetre (10-inch) stem diameter and it can grow by a rapid 30 centimeters a day (12 inches).
